Rompetrol Bulgaria issued a statement Saturday evening confirming that its CEO Sorin-Octavian Nichita has been arrested near Veliko Tarnovo over charges of mayhem and interference with police officers, and denouncing the actions of Bulgarian police.

Nichita, along with a fellow Romanian citizen, were arrested in Arbanassi near Veliko Tarnovo after midnight Friday, when the two entered in a brawl with the security guards of Speaker of Bulgarian Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva.

According to Rompetrol Bulgaria’s statement CEO Nichita and two friends of his peacefully demanded access to the Winepalace restaurants, only to be denied access “quite rudely” by police officers and security guards.

For the first time in history the first round Bulgarian National Football Championship will include a match between top teams and arch-rivals CSKA and Levski Sunday.

The game, styled as the “eternal derby” of Bulgarian football, is to be played at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia.

Sofia police announced that it had taken all measures necessary to ensure the security at the event and to prevent all acts of hooliganism.

Police in Veliko Tarnovo confirmed earlier reports that one of the two Romanians arrested for assaulting the security guards of the Bulgarian Parliament Speaker is a director of Rompetrol Bulgaria.

According to the director of the Veliko Tarnovo Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, the person, named “Nikita Octavian” presented himself as a “member of the board of directors of Rompetrol Bulgaria,” which information was confirmed by the police.

The person, together with his companion, “Pinzaro Ionut”, are already formally charged by the regional Prosecutor’s Office with mayhem and preventing police officers to execute their duties….

Aston Villa’s manager Martin O’Neill denied information that the team’s captain, Bulgarian midfielder Stiliyan Petrov, has received offers from Liverpool.

UK paper The Mirror reported Thursday that Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has offered GBP 7 M for Petrov.

Saturday O’Neill expressed extreme satisfaction at Petrov’s performance and said that some leading teams might have interest in him, but that has not been the case for Liverpool.

The Sofia District Court decided Saturday that Stanislava Dimitrova, the wife of sentenced Toplofikatsia Sofia heating utility head Valentin Dimitrov, shall remain under arrest, reported BGNES.

Stanislava Dimimitrova was arrested Wednesday and charged with large-scale fraud and blackmailing.

The tip-off was sent by a business lady whom the suspects pressed to pay BGN 30 000 so that the contract between her company and the Sofia heating utility is not suspended….

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it has demanded clarification on the part of France regarding announcement by French Minister of Interior Brice Hortefeux that France will deport Roma who have violated the law, reported BGNES.

The Romanian diplomatic service has referred to the freedom of movement, which is a fundamental right of European citizens, and asked France to clarify “to what extent the measures introduced are in compliance with the European acquis.”

Bulgarian deputy foreign minister Marin Raykov said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not expect many Bulgarian citizens to be returned from France after announcement by French Minister of Interior Brice Hortefeux that France will deport Roma who have violated the law.

Marin Raykov has been Bulgaria’s ambassador to France and was recently named to occupy the position again.

“At this point of time we are only waiting what measures will be taken in France and what their result will be,” said Raykov, quoted by Dnevnik….
