Bulgarian Roma Clan Leader Tsar Kiro To Be Kept under Arrest

The Asenovgrad Regional Court has left Roma clan leader Kiril Rashkov, aka Tsar Kiro, under arrest, disregarding his pleas that he was “on the brink of survival”.

He is said to be involved in the death of 19-year-old Angel Petrov, who got ran over by a mini-bus driven by an alleged associate of the Roma clan leader in the southern Bulgarian village of Katunitsa on September 23.

Rashkov has been charged with making two death threats to Veselin Hristov, maternal uncle of the murdered Angel Petrov, and to his girlfriend.

Kiril Rashkov, the Bulgarian Roma mafia boss whose clan triggered ethnic tensions across the country, considered escaping to the neighboring Serbia before he was arrested, it was revealed Friday.

Rashkov’s lawyer, Daniel Angelov, has claimed that his client “wanted to feel safe” and “save his life”, but not to escape from justice. He felt in danger in the aftermath of the Katunitsa clashes, the lawyer explained.

The people of Bulgaria are not interested in the recent ethnic tensions that erupted in the country, according to centrist-right GERB’s presidential runner Rosen Plevneliev, who has been widely tipped to win the elections.
