Bulgaria’s Kralev to Return for 3rd Formula 2 Season

Bulgarian racer Plamen Kralev will return for his third consecutive season in Formula 2, it has been announced.

“I am pleased to stay in my third year of F2. I believe this is the best championship for me that gives me an opportunity to build on my driving skills,” Kralev has declared, as cited by autosport….

Bulgaria, Turkey Move to Mutually Open Cultural Centers

Bulgaria will launch its cultural center in Istanbul, while Turkey will open one in Sofia, it has been made clear.

On Tuesday, Bulgaria’s Council of Ministers approved a project for an intergovernmental memorandum with Turkey for the creation of the two cultural centers.

The cultural centers will have the status of state cultural institutes within the framework of each of the countries’ legislation.

Wikipedia, Bulgarian Archives Launch Cooperation

Parts of the Bulgarian state archives will be published in Wikipedia, Martin Ivanov, head of the country’s Archives State Agency, has announced.

Thus, the Bulgarian-language Wikipedia content will be enriched with various facts, data and pictures, Ivanov has explained, as cited by BGNES.

The Archives State Agency, the Bulgarian body which deals with collecting, preserving, arranging and use of historically valuable archival records, has become the country’s first institution to start cooperating with Wikipedia, the official has pointed out.

Bulgaria Threatens to Cut Agriculture Grants over Price Hike

The Bulgarian government has threatened to cut agriculture grants for producers who deliberately increase prices ahead of Easter.

Egg, lamb and pork prices started increasing several weeks ahead of the Orthodox Easter Sunday (which is April 15 in 2012), prompting Prime Minister Boyko Borisov to demand an immediate analysis from several of his Ministers.

Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov, Finance Minister Simeon Djankov and Economy Minister Traicho Traikov have to be ready by Friday with their price analysis and determine whether there has been speculation in place.

Netherlands Softens Stance on Bulgaria Schengen Entry

Bulgaria is now just one positive Cooperation and Verification Mechanism report away from its phased-in Schengen entry, according to Dutch Ambassador to the country Karel Van Kesteren.

The Netherlands had already stated that it needed to see two positive CVM reports before letting Bulgaria and Romania join the Schengen Agreement with their air and sea borders.

During a press conference on Tuesday, van Kesteren cited Dutch PM Mark Rutte’s words that February’s interim report was more or less positive, adding that he hoped the last necessary positive report to arrive this summer.

Bulgarian Govt Approves Support for Nabucco Pipe

The Bulgarian cabinet has approved Tuesday an agreement between the Bulgarian Nabucco company and the international Nabucco consortium for the furthering of the gas pipeline project.

The agreement for support was signed in June 2011 between Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbH and Nabucco Gas Pipeline Bulgaria EOOD.

With the approval, the Bulgarian cabinet proposes to the Bulgarian Parliament to ratify the contract.

Fellow Expert Blasts Bulgarian FinMin Silver Fund Idea

The Head of the Bulgaria Financial Supervision Commission, Stoyan Mavrodiev, became Tuesday the latest expert to attack Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, on his plans for the Silver Fund.

Djankov recently proposed changes to the governance of the Silver (Retirement) Fund that would enable a more active management of the collected funds and the investment of up to 70% of it in government securities. The Fund is part of the country’s fiscal reserve.

Condition of Stabbed Bulgarian MMA Champ Deteriorates

The condition of Bulgarian MMA fighter, Blagoi Ivanov AKA Bagata has deteriorated Monday and a second surgery was performed on him at the Sofia emergency Pirogov hospital.

Doctors inform Bagata remains in critical condition and is placed on life support and on a respirator. He is an artificial coma.
