BarDog Launches New Mobile Liquor Inventory App for Restaurants and Pubs

BarDog Launches New Bar Inventory App for Restaurants and Pubs

One of the challenges of running a bar is conducting an inventory. This is because the inventory is fluid (pun intended) and very hard to keep track of if you are not on top of things. The new liquor inventory app from BarDog Technologies looks to simplify the process by matching the content of your shelf directly to the app, making it easier to track.

The BarDog app has a single user interface which lets you organize your inventory, count it, log purchases and view your gross margins. And you can do this no matter where you are, whether it is on your mobile device or desktop from remote locations.

According to the American Nightlife Association and based on IBISWorld data, there are around 70,000 locations primarily engaged in the retail sale of alcoholic drinks — and this doesn’t include restaurants. The industry is dominated by small businesses owned and operated by families. More than three quarters or 77.6 percent employ nine people or less. So the BarDog app is going to help many small businesses eliminate a labor-intensive task. In fact, one app user said just that.

Pete Sittnick, Managing Partner for Waterbar & EPIC Steak, San Francisco, said on BarDog’s official website, “BarDog takes an outdated process and simplifies it. This means less time doing low-value work, and fewer errors.”

The Bardog Bar Inventory App at Work

BarDog lets you create a master catalog to organize all of your inventory while at the same time remembering what’s on the shelf, the order size, who you ordered from and more. It matches your shelf directory with the mobile app so you can make quick counts on the go alone or simultaneously with your staff.

The reporting mechanism has a dashboard with counts, total values, pour cost, spend by category and other data you can import to a spreadsheet or PDF.

It also integrates your vendors and distributors with a list containing payment terms, the name of sales representatives and contact information.

Pricing and Availability

BarDog is now available with three different pricing structures. The Pup, which starts at $35 per month provides unlimited inventories, master catalog, purchase and transfer log and more for three users.

The Dog goes up to $99 per month and includes all of the features of the Pup but includes unlimited users, staff training, user activity tracking and more. The pricing for the Pack is not available without contacting the company, but is structured for multi-location management along with region and location reports.

Small Businesses: Best Cities for Hiring Baby Boomers

If you think the edge your small business requires can be found by hiring a millennial, think again.

You may find more experience will right the ship. You can find this with Baby Boomers. And says Baby Boomers are actively looking to work for a small business all across the country.

Indeed scoured its site of job listings and user profiles to find the top cities in the U.S. where Baby Boomers are most often looking to work for a small business.

“Whether it be by personal choice or the rising cost of living in the US, baby boomers are working longer and putting off retirement for a number of reasons. Because this group of workers is still searching for jobs and looking to stay employed, baby boomers are still very much an important part of our workforce,” says Paul Wolfe, Indeed Senior Vice President and head of HR for the job site.

The top city right now where Boomers are looking to work for a small business is Las Vegas. Memphis, Tennessee and Riverside, California, round out the top three cities on the list.

This is the first time Vegas has made the Indeed list. Wolfe says other cities are new to the top 10 list too, including Miami, Washington DC, and Milwaukee.

“Our data indicates that baby boomers are looking for roles with small businesses all over the country. We find it interesting to see Las Vegas rise to the top of this list of cities where this age group is looking for work in small businesses,” Wolfe says.

An Extra Half Degree of Global Warming Could Displace 5 Million People

Sunday, March 18th, 2018

A half-degree increase in the planet’s average temperature may not seem significant, but new research suggests the increment could be the difference between 5 million people having a home or not, according to News Agency UPI.

The United Nations agreement on climate change set two goals in regard to global warming. The main goal calls for nations to ensure global temperatures increase no more than 2 degrees Celsius above the pre-indsturial average. But the Paris agreement also put forward an aspirational target of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.

Whether either target is sufficient or possible remains a matter of debate, but most scientists believe the 1.5 degree target is more likely to avoid global warming’s worst case scenarios.

Now, new research has confirmed that the half-degree separating the two targets is far from inconsequential. According to climate scientists at Princeton University, an extra half degree of warming would trigger additional sea level rise, flooding coastal regions and islands currently inhabited by some 5 million people.

Researchers used the most up-to-date sea level and storm surge prediction models to gauge the impact of three different global warming scenarios — warming of 1.5, 2 and 2.5 degrees Celsius. The published the results of their analysis in the journal Environmental Research Letters.

“People think the Paris Agreement is going to save us from harm from climate change, but we show that even under the best-case climate policy being considered today, many places will still have to deal with rising seas and more frequent coastal floods,” lead study author D.J. Rasmussen, an environmental policy grad student at Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, said in a news release.

Using tidal records to inform the latest models of sea level rise and storm models, scientists showed that extreme sea-level events will become more frequent under all three warming scenarios. A 1.5-degree increase in global temperature is likely to raise sea levels by an average of 1.6 feet, while a 2.0-degree increase lead to a 1.8 foot rise in sea level.

The new models also showed what previous studies have — that even if global warming is halted within the next few decades, seas are likely to continue rising well into the next century.

International Architecture Forum at the National Palace of Culture Dedicated to the Western Balkans

Sunday, March 18th, 2018

An international architectural forum is held in the National Palace of Culture within the framework of the Bulgarian Euro-Presidency. It is devoted to the integration of the Western Balkans.

Problems with  urbanization, migration and motorization are among the main topics of the forum. Everyone agreed that the movement of labor from small to big cities led to overbuilding and to overburdening the streets with cars. This was also the thesis of the chief architect of Sofia, Zdravko Zdravkov.

He explained that the competition for development and improvement of the new pedestrian zone is already underway, as it extends to Vitosha Blvd and reaches Sveta Nedelya church. One of the requirements is that it will not have any access to cars and that the park landscaping is widely covered. Zdravkov also said that the issue of high-rise construction in Sofia will soon be resolved.

Now North Korean Diplomat Heads to Finland Amid New Diplomatic Flurry

Sunday, March 18th, 2018

A senior North Korean diplomat left for Finland on Sunday for talks with former U.S. and South Korean officials, Yonhap News Agency reported, amid a series of diplomatic encounters ahead of a possible U.S.-North Korean summit, Reuters reported.

North Korea is pursuing its nuclear and missile programs in defiance of U.N. Security Council sanctions and has made no secret of its plans to develop a missile capable of hitting the U.S. mainland.

It defends the programs as a necessary deterrent against perceived plans by the United States, which stations 28,500 troops in South Korea, a legacy of the Korean war, for invasion.

The United States denies such plans. Tensions have eased in recent weeks, coinciding with North Korea’s participation in the Winter Olympics held in the South last month.

Choe Kang Il, a deputy director general for North American affairs at North Korea’s foreign ministry, plans to attend the “track 1.5 talks”, according to Yonhap, reflecting planned contact between former U.S. officials and current North Korean ones in a broader bid to end the standoff over North Korea’s weapons programs.

South Korea’s foreign ministry said in a statement North Korea would participate in the meeting joined by former South Korean officials and academics but did not provide further details.

The talks in Finland will add to a flurry of diplomatic activity in face of the proposed North Korean summits with South Korea and the United States, respectively, in April and May.

Arriving at a Beijing airport en route to Finland, Choe declined to comment.

North Korean and Swedish foreign ministers ended three days of talks on Saturday on security on the Korean peninsula in preparation of the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un.

South Korea said on Friday it was seeking high-level talks this month with North Korea to prepare for a summit and that South Korean President Moon Jae-in may meet Trump before the U.S. president’s planned meeting with the North Korean leader.

In a telephone call, Moon and Trump both voiced “cautious optimism” about efforts to resolve the crisis over North Korea’s nuclear weapons.

The Strong Wind Literally Took Roofs of Houses Across the Country

Sunday, March 18th, 2018

The strong wind literally took roofs of houses, there were slightly damaged citizens from fallen roof tiles. This is what Vratsa Mayor Kalin Kamenov said for FOCUS News Agency.

“At the moment, a municipality team goes around the villages to collect information about the damage caused by the stormy winds. Trees have fallen on cars, literally destroyed and entire roofs of houses, in some villages there are broken glasses. There are fallen electric poles, some places are without power supply,” said the mayor.

“Fortunately, there are no seriously injured people. There are lightly injured citizens of fallen roof tiles, debris from houses. The damage is not so small. By midday we will have primary information on the number of property and buildings suffered and what we can do for the most deprived, as some of these buildings are of elderly people who may have no place to go elsewhere” Kamenov said, adding that it is likely that there will be information on the amount of damages until noon.
